SAAP Chairman Announces Reforms in Sports Sector

Vijayawada, August 30: Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairman Sri Ravi naidu said the government is committed to ensuring transparency and justice for sportspersons in the State. Speaking at a media conference held at the SAAP office, he announced several key initiatives and corrective measures. He said this year’s National Sports Day was celebrated on a grand scale in Visakhapatnam and plans are underway to involve three lakh people in next year’s celebrations. To support athletes, the government has released ₹16 crore arrears pending for several years and distributed ₹33 lakh cash incentives to winners of the Amaravati Championship. Highlighting recruitment through the Mega DSC, Ravinaidu said 421 posts were allotted under the sports quota. However, scrutiny revealed more than 870 fake certificates, and legal action will be taken against both those who submitted them and those who issued them.We will not allow injustice to genuine players, he stressed. The Chairman cautioned sports associations against misusing their authority, stating that only one association per sport would be recognized by SAAP. Meetings with associations will be held once every six months to resolve issues. On the alleged irregularities in the Aadudam Andhra scheme, he said the Vigilance Department had submitted its report to the government, and a decision was expected by the 5th of next month.

District Collector Assures Public on Flood Preparedness

NTR District, Aug 28: District Collector Dr. G. Lakshmi shah IAS has assured that the administration is fully alert and closely monitoring the situation arising from rains and floods in the district. He appealed to the public not to panic and to follow the instructions of field-level officials and staff. Reviewing the situation from the Command Control Centre on Thursday, Dr. Lakshmisha said flood flows in Krishna River, Budameru, and Munneru are being continuously monitored. Nearly 95 villages have been alerted, and special response teams are active 24/7. Fishermen were advised not to venture into the river due to rising inflows. He informed that 32 rehabilitation centres with all facilities have been set up for families in vulnerable areas, especially in hill regions prone to landslides. In Vijayawada city, drainage and canal levels are being managed in coordination with the Irrigation Department to prevent waterlogging. A Command Control Centre 91549 70454 has been established at the Collectorate to provide real-time updates on rainfall and flood conditions. Citizens may contact the centre for information or assistance.

Experts Oppose False Propaganda on Amaravati

Vijayawada, Aug 28: Experts at a seminar in Vijayawada strongly condemned the false propaganda being spread against Amaravati, stating that it is hindering the overall development of Andhra Pradesh. The seminar on “False Campaigns on Amaravati Freedom of Expression” was organized by CR Media Academy at Sri Rama Function Hall. Hon’ble Justice (Retd.) Sri T. Sunil Chowdhary, speaking as chief guest, stressed that freedom of expression under the Constitution also carries responsibilities. He cautioned that false news should not create divisions in society and urged the media to uphold ethical values. CR Media Academy Chairman Sri Alapati Suresh said Amaravati was declared the capital without objection after bifurcation, but malicious campaigns began after 2019, including false claims that it gets submerged during rains. He termed such propaganda a violation of constitutional limits. Irrigation Expert Sri Lakshminarayana pointed out that floods are natural and occur even in major cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, stressing the need for dams and water management in Amaravati. Historian Sri Papineni Sai underlined the ancient cultural and historical significance of Amaravati, while Amaravati Farmers’ Leader Sri Jonnalagadda Kiran asserted that Amaravati is the capital for all people of Andhra Pradesh, not just farmers.

Vijayawada, Aug 28: Sri Valavala Mallikharjuna Rao (Babji) was sworn in as the Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Building and Construction Workers Welfare Board at a ceremony held at Srinivasa Convention, Tadepalli. Speaking on the occasion, Mallikharjuna Rao thanked Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri N. Chandrababu Naidu for the appointment and assured that he would work with full dedication for the welfare and development of workers. Hon’ble Energy Minister Sri Gottipati Ravikumar, Hon’ble Labour Minister Sri Vasamshetty Subhash, former Ministers Sri Prattipati Pullarao and Sri Pitani Satyanarayana, along with several MLAs, leaders, and workers, participated in the programme. NTR District NSS Volunteers Create World Record with Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idols

Vijayawada, Aug 26: In a remarkable initiative promoting environmental awareness, around 500 NSS volunteers from various colleges across the NTR district successfully participated in the creation of eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols, contributing to a world record. The program was launched following the call of NTR District Collector Dr. G. Lakshmi shah, IAS, encouraging students to move away from harmful plastic idols and embrace sustainable practices during the Ganesh festival. According to Dr. Kolleti Ramesh, District NSS Coordinator, students from SRR Government Degree College, Nalanda Degree College, PG Centre, Maris Stella College, Vijay Institute of Technology for Women, Siddhartha College, KBN College, SRR Government Junior College, and Government Nursing College took an active part in the campaign. Dr. Ramesh extended heartfelt thanks to Collector Dr. Lakshmi shah for his support in motivating students and fostering environmental responsibility.
